Fire

On March 14th we had a fire that destroyed our 30+ year business and damaged our home. The home (which I've lived in my entire life) will have to be demolished.

Right now I'm living with my father and brother in our cottage in the country, which sucks but hey I'm greatful we had one to come to. I'm finding the aftermath and the dealings with factions in my family and the insurance company to be more trying than the fire itself. It's quite a surreal feeling watching buildings that have been such a part of your life burn like that. I was asleep at the time, and my brother came down and screamed the shop was on fire. It's all a blur after that I got my clothes on grabbed my cat and ran upstairs, and when I got to our front door (The door we normally used faced the now burning shop) I look over toward the shop and there was nothing but a huge fireball in its place.

But everyone (including our animals) got out ok, and the firefighters did an amazing job saving most of the rooms in our house. The only possessions destroyed were my brother's cd player, and our furniture in the Living Room. Everything else was pretty much unscathed.

Prime Minister Harper Fails the One Tonne Challenge

I guess when you're an ultra far right Conservative like the current occupant of 24 Sussex Drive you must have some sort of blinders on that allow you to be ignorant to the dangers that humans pose to the environment. I guess these people must think that Jesus will clean up the Earth...

Case in point: the new Conservative government has pulled the plug on the One Tonne Challenge program, probably to help them pay for that tax cut we don't need. I can't tell you how happy I am about this, after all who needs clean air and water when you have money right?
